There is a ping pong table, fitness room and lounging area with TV, as well as a public use desktop computer and printer at the Activity Center available for you to use. Operating hours are seasonal and will be posted on the front door. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult in the Activity Center.

Please clean up after yourself as a courtesy to others. Smoking is not permitted inside the Activity Center.

ACTIVITY AND RECREATION RESERVATIONS AT WATERSIDE
AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING

Heat pump air conditioning systems are used in temperate climates and are most efficient when thermostats are set between 72-75 degrees for cooling and 68-75 degrees for heating. Constant adjusting of the thermostat will cause the system to malfunction. Please do not leave doors open if your air conditioning system is on.

If your A/C is blowing hot air or is non-functional, please check the circuit breaker first. If this is not the problem, please call Resort Services at (843) 341-4242 or by dialing “0” from your villa phone.

ALLIGATORS AND OTHER WILDLIFE

DO NOT Feed the alligators.  Fines could exceed $1000± for feeding alligators, but it is also dangerous for both the humans and the alligator. Alligators that have been fed will become more aggressive and less fearful about approaching humans and may need to be removed and disposed of by wildlife authorities. Please enjoy all of our beautiful wildlife but respect all the animals in the wild by not feeding or harassing them.

ARTS & CULTURE

Performing and visual arts are alive and well on Hilton Head Island, named one of America’s “Top Small Art Towns”. BABY NEEDS

Cribs, highchairs, and strollers can be rented through Baby’s Away at (843) 681-8722. All rentals must have a debit or credit card for security. They will deliver the equipment to the villas and pick it back up at or after check-out.

BEACHES

Hilton Head Island is known for its beautiful beaches and scenic dunes. Please help preserve the natural ecology of our area by disposing of your litter properly, using designated beach accesses, by not walking across the dunes, and by not removing live creatures such as sand dollars and starfish from the beach.  If you dig a hole or build a sandcastle, please fill in your holes and demolish your sandcastle before leaving the beach.  Never dig holes any deeper than 12″ as they then become obstacles to nesting or hatching sea turtles.

There are 6 public beach parks for your enjoyment. For more information and directions, please call the Town of Hilton Head Island Beach Information Services at (843) 342-4580 or use the map and links below.

  • Alder Lane (south-island): restrooms, meter parking
  • Burke’s Beach (mid-island): meter parking, tennis courts and restrooms by the tennis facility
  • Coligny Beach (south-island): beach matting, restrooms, meter parking, free parking, playground, seasonal life guards, seasonal beach rentals
  • Driessen Beach (mid-island): beach matting, restrooms, meter parking, playground, seasonal life guards, seasonal beach rentals, pavilion, grills
  • Folly Field Beach Park (mid-island): restrooms, meter parking, seasonal lifeguards, seasonal beach rentals

BEACH ACCESS

Private Shipyard Beach access is at the Shipyard Beach Club.  There is vehicle parking (only one car permitted per villa), ample bicycle parking, restrooms and showers.  One Weekly Beach Access pass per villa will be issued at Check-In and must be displayed when parking at the Beach Club.  If any Spinnaker owner or guest violates the Shipyard Beach parking regulations their parking privileges for Beach Club parking can be revoked by Shipyard Security.  Please note:  Between Memorial Day and Labor Day the one car rule will strictly enforced.

To the Beach by Walking/Bike Path:  The beach is approximately 1-1/2 miles from the resort and can be accessed by a short bike ride or walk on a mostly shady and scenic path. As you exit from your cul-de-sac you will travel either to your right (Villas 41-54) or to your left (Villas 117-162) to get back to Valencia Road. Villas 41-54 go left onto Valencia Road, and Villas 117-162 continue down Valencia Road until you reach the stop sign. You can pick up the bike path just after the small bridge. At the end of Valencia Road you will cross the street in order to pick up the bike path. Follow the bike path to your right. The bike path will lead you to a traffic circle. At the traffic circle you will need to cross the road (adjacent to the large lagoon) to continue down the bike path. Once across the street, follow the path to your right and it will end at the Shipyard Beach Club.

To the Beach by Car:  As you exit the resort area, follow Valencia Road to the stop sign. Take a right and follow the road to the traffic circle. Take the second exit off of the traffic circle towards the Sonesta Beach Resort; this will be a continuance of Shipyard Drive. Shipyard Drive ends at the Shipyard Beach Club. Please see the notes above regarding the parking rules for the Shipyard Beach Club.

BEACH LOCKERS

There are lockers available at the Shipyard Beach House for rental for your vacation stay for a small fee at the S.R Hotel Front Desk. You can reserve the lockers in advance of your stay, rent one at Check-In or anytime during your stay, subject to availability. You will be provided with the locker number and a combination lock. This can provide a place to keep your beach gear (chairs, umbrellas, toys, etc.) at the beach without having to carry these items back and forth each day.

BICYCLES

If you need bikes, they can be rented through The Bike Doctor at (843) 681-7531. They will deliver the bikes directly to your villa.

BUSINESS SERVICES

There is wireless access throughout the Resort and in each villa.  There is a public use desktop computer and printer available at the Egret Point Activity Center.

See Copy and Fax Service for additional information.

CAR PASSES

Two car passes for your stay are provided for your party at Check-In. If you require additional daily passes to Shipyard, please call Shipyard Security at (843) 785-4776. You will be asked to provide a security code when calling. Please note your security code is included with your check in information.  If you misplace your security code, please call resort services by dialing “0” from your villa phone, or (843) 341-4242.  (Note:  Only park in designated parking areas or you could receive a ticket from Shipyard Security.)

FISHING AND CRABBING

South Carolina wildlife laws require anyone over the age of 12 to possess a fishing license for fishing in fresh water. This pertains to lagoons and creeks. To gather oysters or clams, you must be a state resident or accompanied by one. There are household limits and only public beds may be harvested. Local marinas can answer any questions you may have regarding wildlife laws and can assist in equipping you with the necessary items to enjoy the benefit of catching your own. We do not recommend eating fish caught in plantation lagoons because of golf course chemical run-off.

Please contact a member of the Activities staff at the Recreation Cabana for fishing and crabbing gear for rent and fishing bait for sale.

Bluewater Pier Fishing & Crabbing Guidelines
1 All persons over the age of 16 engaging in fishing or crabbing must have a valid South Carolina saltwater fishing license.
Licenses may be purchased at Walmart or online at  http://www.dnr.sc.gov/purchase.html
2 Do not leave fishing rods unattended.
3 Inhumane handling of wildlife will not be tolerated.
4 Release of all fish or rays is required if they are not to be consumed.
5 All size and catch limits must be followed per SCDNR regulations.
Recommended phone app  Fish Rules is a free download for Android and iOS for area fish identification, bag and size limits, seasons, and suggestions.
6 No intentional shark fishing. Sharks must be released immediately after hook removal. Cut the line if shark is over 3 feet long.
7 No fishing is allowed if an alligator is present.
8 Crab pots must be registered at the Recreation Cabana.  Unregistered crab pots or crab pots not displaying a registration tag will be removed from the dock by Bluewater staff.
9 Those crabbing with a stinger without a hook, drop nets or folding traps do not require a SC Fishing license.
10 Crab traps must be always submerged and not set where they can be exposed during low tides. Traps should be checked daily.
11 To reduce the threat of invasive species in our waterways, please use only locally acquired bait and clean fishing equipment and tackle.

SMOKING POLICY

Effective January 1, 2016 the Rules and Regulations at this Association have changed to include the following new rule:

In Villa No-Smoking Policy - No owner, family member, tenant, resident, guest, business invitee, or visitor shall smoke cigarettes, cigars, or any other tobacco product within the vacation villa. Smoking will only be permitted on the balcony area of each villa or in the designated smoking areas (see Resort Map). If it is found that an Owner and/or Guest has violated this policy a fine of $150 for a professional cleaning of the villa will be charged to the Owner and/or Guest who is registered at the Resort. If the next occupant to this villa must be relocated due to the smoke smell, the previous occupant will also be charged for any additional fees that may be incurred by the relocation.

SWIMMING POOL/HOT TUB

Due to the State of South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control's new regulations:

ALL Pools & Hot Tubs will be closed at DUSK.

Pool Hours are now 9:00 a.m. until DUSK. Please follow all posted rules. There is no lifeguard on duty; you are swimming at your own risk. Never leave children who are not water safe unattended around pools. There is no glass permitted in the pool/hot tub area. Plastic pool tumblers are provided in every unit so that you may drink beverages by the pool.

Please have non-potty trained children use swim diapers. Even bathing suits with the diaper sewn into the lining tend to stretch out at the legs allowing leakage. The most common cause of fecal contamination in pools is from young children who are not properly dressed for swimming. If contaminated, South Carolina State health and safety rules require that the pool must be shut down for a minimum of 24 hours.

No personal flotation devices are allowed in the resort pools including rafts, float chairs, tubes and loungers (infant floats are allowed).  Clear inner tubes, swim hammocks and swim noodles are provided on the pool deck and at the Recreation Cabana for guest use.  Please do not remove these from the pool deck and return them to their holding racks when not in use.

TRASH

Keep all garbage in plastic bags. Please place all trash in the bins located inside the designated service area the night before your departure. There are service yards located throughout the resort. Trash is picked up several times a week.

BEACH INFORMATION

BEACHES

Hilton Head Island is known for its beautiful beaches and scenic dunes. Please help preserve the natural ecology of our area by disposing of your litter properly, using designated beach accesses, by not walking across the dunes, and by not removing live creatures such as sand dollars and starfish from the beach.  If you build a sandcastle, please demolish it and fill in any holes before you leave the beach to help our nesting sea turtles and their hatchlings.

There are 5 public beach parks for your enjoyment. For more information and directions, call the Town of Hilton Head Island Beach Information Services at (843) 342-4580.

  • Alder Lane (south-island): restrooms, meter parking
  • Burkes Beach (mid-island): meter parking, tennis courts and restrooms by the tennis facility
  • Coligny Beach (south-island): beach matting, restrooms, meter parking, free parking, playground, seasonal life guards, seasonal beach rentals
  • Driessen Beach (mid-island): beach matting, restrooms, meter parking, playground, seasonal life guards, seasonal beach rentals, pavilion, grills
  • Folly Field Beach Park (mid-island): restrooms, meter parking, seasonal lifeguards, seasonal beach rentals
BEACH ACCESS

Private Shipyard Beach access is at the Shipyard Beach Club. There is auto parking (only one car permitted per villa), ample bicycle parking, restrooms and showers.
Note: Between Memorial Day and Labor Day the one car rule will be strictly enforced. A Weekly Beach Access pass (1 per villa) will be issued at Check-In and must be displayed when parking at the Beach Club. If any Timeshare Owner or Guest violates the beach parking regulations their parking privileges for beach parking can be revoked by Shipyard Security.

To the beach by walking/bike path: The beach is approximately 1.5 miles from the resort and can be accessed by a short bike ride or walk on a mostly shady and scenic path.

To the beach by car: As you exit the resort area, follow Valencia Road to the stop sign (at Cordillo Parkway). Take a right and follow the road to the traffic circle. Take the first “road” off of the traffic circle towards the beach; this will be a continuance of Shipyard Drive. Shipyard Drive ends at the Shipyard Beach Club. See the notes above regarding the parking rules for the Shipyard Beach Club.

WILDLIFE

ALLIGATORS

Take a good look at that log floating in a pond because, chances are, it's not a log but an alligator. Alligators are indigenous to South Carolina and are found in lagoons, swamps and slow-moving streams. You will often see them sunning themselves on the banks of a lagoon. Do not go near them. Although they look like they are sleeping, they can move quickly and whatever you do, DO NOT feed or harass them.

PALMETTO BUGS

During your stay, you may encounter bugs that you have never seen before, the most common of which is the Palmetto Bug. These bugs live in palmetto trees and live oaks, not indoors. While Palmetto Bugs are native to the island, so are exterminators who conduct monthly Palmetto Bug termination treatments.
The bugs are approximately 2" long and have a hard outer shell. They do not bite, can do you no harm, but they do fly. If you encounter one of these in your villa, it is because it has flown in from the trees…so please do not leave your sliding doors open and remember to close doors as soon as you enter and exit the doorway.

DOLPHINS

It is hard not to be fascinated by these intelligent creatures that are so prevalent in coastal South Carolina’s waters. You will probably see them just offshore at any beach that you go to during your stay. In addition, there are many dolphin-watching boat excursions that leave from Harbour Town and Shelter Cove Marina.

SEA TURTLES

These magnificent creatures are on the endangered species list. They build their nests on the beaches of South Carolina, instinctively returning to the place of their birth to lay their eggs. Oceanfront villas and homes are required to curtail their use of lights after 10:00 p.m. during turtle nesting season.  Please fill in any holes you dig on the beach and demolish any sand castles before you leave.  Never dig holes on the beach any deeper than 12" as it creates an obstacle to the sea turtles.

HURRICANE INFORMATION

HURRICANE INFORMATION

We would like to ask that you review the following information in the event the Island is evacuated due to an approaching Hurricane.

1) Please place all patio/deck furniture and unsecured items in the villa.
2) Please close all draperies and blinds and lock all windows and doors upon departure.

Under South Carolina law, if a hurricane threatens Hilton Head Island, the Local Government will first issue a Voluntary Evacuation Order. At that time, Southwind Management will request that all Owners and Guests leave the resort in order to allow staff to prepare for the impending hurricane.

If the Governor issues a Mandatory Evacuation Order, all Residents and Visitors to the island are required to leave the island immediately and will not be able to return until the storm passes and local authorities allow re-entry to the island.

After the storm has passed and the Governor rescinds the Evacuation Order, call toll-free (800) 963-5023 for re-entry information.

When a storm is approaching the Island, you should listen to radio stations WGCO 98.3 FM, WYKZ 98.7 FM, WLOW 107.9 FM or watch the Weather Channel on Channel 6 for emergency information and instructions.

Beaufort County Hurricane Hotline (800) 963-5023
Hilton Head Island Fire Department (843) 682-5100 or 911 (in an emergency)
Beaufort County Sheriff (843) 255-3300 or 911 (in an emergency)

HURRICANE EVACUATION TIPS
  • Know where shelters are in our area
  • Make sure your vehicle is fully fueled
  • Bring Flashlights and extra batteries
  • Consider a portable, battery-operated radio with spare batteries
  • Bring a First Aid kit and manual
  • Pack emergency food and water
  • Pack essential Medicines
  • Be sure to bring cash and credit cards

Call the Public Information Phone Systems (PIPS) (800) 256-8535 for shelter information. This number will be activated once the Governor has issued an evacuation order, voluntary or mandatory.

During a declared emergency, the South Carolina Department of transportation will activate a toll free number for traffic and road conditions. Call (888) 877-9151 during these emergencies for the latest road information.

HURRICANE EVACUATION ROUTE

Hilton Head Island evacuees will use both the William Hilton Parkway (US 278 Business) and the Cross Island Parkway toll facility (US 278).

As these two roads merge, a third lane will be formed by reversing flow on the inside eastbound lane of US 278. This lane will carry the traffic from the toll facility.

When US 278 reaches I-95, lane assignments will be as follows:

1. The right lane on westbound US 278 will exit to I-95 northbound.
2. The left lane on US 278 westbound will continue on US 278 towards the city of Hampton
and eventually to the city of North Augusta.
3. The reversed lane will take SC 46 to US 321, then to SC 3 to SC 125 and onto North
Augusta.

Should a third lane not be necessary, then both lanes on US 278 will be routed to I-95 with the right lane to I-95 N then left lane continues on US 278.

(Note – during storms approaching from Florida and/or Georgia coastal areas, authorities may restrict access to most southbound interstates including I-95 S)

RE-ENTRY - RETURNING TO HILTON HEAD ISLAND AFTER A HURRICANE

RE-ENTRY HOTLINE (800) 963-5023

Check the local and state news sources for re-entering information. If the Island is open for re-entry, please call your property location for specific information regarding your villa. However, please consider there could be limited facilities open on the Island.

Due to the heavy tree cover and vegetation on the Island, it could take several days before the Island is back to operating at normal levels.

EMERGENCY and fire evacuation

Emergency Fire and Evacuation Procedures

Please read the following information and be familiar with your surroundings. Make note of the location of all fire extinguishers and alarm pull stations. Knowing this information could make the difference in a life or death situation. Don’t forget to inform your guests or family members of the information provided on this page and choose a specific location to meet in case of a separation once you have exited the building.

In the event of an actual fire in your villa or other areas of the building in which you are staying, AN ALARM WILL SOUND.

Never assume that it is a false alarm. Please exit the building in a safe orderly manner.

DO NOT RUN!!

After exiting the building, maintain a safe distance away from the building. Structural fires can cause a collapse of the structure or falling debris. An employee of Spinnaker Resorts or a Fire Department representative will let you know when it is safe for you to return to your villa, if at all possible.

If you have a fire in your unit or you notice smoke or flames in another area:

1) DIAL 9-911 on your villa phone.

2) If you call 911 you may be asked for the address. It is 18 Valencia Road, please give the dispatcher the building number or location of the fire.

3) Fire Extinguishers are located in each unit, either in the laundry area or air conditioning closet. If you cannot find the fire extinguisher upon arrival, contact the facilities (maintenance) department by dialing “0” on your villa phone and a staff member will assist you. DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN DANGER. Directions for use of a fire extinguisher are located on the extinguisher.

4) Please dial “0” from your villa phone if you have any questions on the above information.

SAFETY INFORMATION

WHAT IF I GET HURT?

We hope you won't need any first aid while visiting Hilton Head Island. If you do have any of the following problems, these hints may help ease the pain. In case of any emergency please dial 9+911 if you are calling from your villa phone.

ALLIGATORS

Do NOT go near alligators. Do NOT feed or tease them! Alligators can outrun a human for 25 yards. If you encounter an alligator lazing in the sun quickly and quietly go the other way.

STINGING MARINE LIFE

Apply vinegar, sugar, salt or dry sand to jelly fish stings. Lifeguards keep a bottle of vinegar solution to spray on stings. Meat tenderizer works well too. After 20 minutes, rinse with salt water.

Be aware that sting rays also enjoy the surf, so watch your step and "shuffle" aside if you spot one nearby.

OYSTER SHELLS, BARNACLES

Oyster shells and barnacles are often attached to dock pilings. Cuts and abrasions can result in serious infections. Clean the wound with peroxide. Medical treatment is advised.

SNAKE BITES
Call 9+911, some local snakes are poisonous and their bites can be deadly. Use a compression dressing just above the bite, NOT a tourniquet.

Please be aware that the island is home to copperheads, cottonmouths (water moccasins), and the rare rattlesnake or coral snake are occasionally sighted.

SUNBURN

Soak in cool water unless skin is broken or blistered. Aloe gels and sprays are available in pharmacies. Ibuprofen may help.

SURF RULES

Look for warning signs of red flags before entering the surf.

Discuss surf conditions with beach attendants or check on advisories by calling the National Weather Service or clicking on the link in the next section "NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE".

Do not swim alone and avoid swimming too far from shore.

Do not dive into the ocean unless you know the water depth.

Be especially cautious when the surf is high.

TICKS

Do not attempt to remove if the tick is below the skin surface. Cover with petroleum jelly or a film of oil, as this will cause the tick to re-surface. When the insect is free, remove with tweezers. If flu-like symptoms occur within two weeks, seek medical attention.
