SMOKING POLICY
Effective 2016 the smoking policy has been amended to include no smoking of e‐cigarettes and smoking will no longer be permitted on the pool deck/s or the unit balconies.
Effective 2011, no owner, family member, tenant, resident, guest, business invitee, or visitor shall smoke cigarettes, cigars, or any other tobacco product within the vacation unit. Smoking will only be permitted on the balcony area of each unit.
If found that an Owner and/or Guest has violated this policy a fine of $150 for a professional cleaning of the unit will be charged to the Owner and/or Guest who is registered at the Resort.
If the next occupant to this unit must be relocated due to the smoke smell, the previous occupant will also be charged for any additional fees that may be incurred by the relocation.
SWIMMING POOL/HOT TUB
ALL Pools & Hot Tubs will be closed at DUSK.
Pool Hours are now 9:00 a.m. until DUSK. Please follow all posted rules. There is no lifeguard on duty; you are swimming at your own risk. Never leave children who are not water safe unattended around pools. There is no glass permitted in the pool/hot tub area. Plastic pool tumblers are provided in every unit so that you may drink beverages by the pool.
Please have non-potty trained children use swim diapers. Even bathing suits with the diaper sewn into the lining tend to stretch out at the legs allowing leakage. The most common cause of fecal contamination in pools is from young children who are not properly dressed for swimming. If contaminated, South Carolina State health and safety rules require that the pool must be shut down for a minimum of 24 hours.
No personal flotation devices are allowed in the resort pools including rafts, float chairs, tubes and loungers (infant floats are allowed). Clear inner tubes, swim hammocks and swim noodles are provided on the pool deck and at the Recreation Cabana for guest use. Please do not remove these from the pool deck and return them to their holding racks when not in use.

WILDLIFE
Take a good look at that log floating in a pond because, chances are, it's not a log but an alligator. Alligators are indigenous to South Carolina and are found in lagoons, swamps and slow-moving streams. You will often see them sunning themselves on the banks of a lagoon. Do not go near them. Although they look like they are sleeping, they can move quickly and whatever you do, DO NOT feed or harass them.
PALMETTO BUGS
During your stay, you may encounter bugs that you have never seen before, the most common of which is the Palmetto Bug. These bugs live in palmetto trees and live oaks, not indoors. While Palmetto Bugs are native to the island, so are exterminators who conduct monthly Palmetto Bug termination treatments.
The bugs are approximately 2" long and have a hard outer shell. They do not bite, can do you no harm, but they do fly. If you encounter one of these in your villa, it is because it has flown in from the trees…so please do not leave your sliding doors open and remember to close doors as soon as you enter or exit the doorways.
DOLPHINS
It is hard not to be fascinated by these intelligent creatures that are so prevalent in coastal South Carolina’s waters. You will probably see them just offshore at any beach that you go to during your stay. In addition, there are many dolphin-watching boat excursions that leave from the Bluewater Dock (see Activity and Recreation Reservations section), the Shelter Cove Marina and from Harbour Town in Sea Pines.
SEA TURTLES
These magnificent creatures are on the endangered species list. They build their nests on the beaches of South Carolina, instinctively returning to the place of their birth to lay their eggs. Oceanfront units and homes are required to curtail their use of lights after 10:00 p.m. during turtle nesting season.

HURRICANE INFORMATION
1) Please place all patio/deck furniture and unsecured items in the villa.
2) Please close all draperies and blinds and lock all windows and doors upon departure.
Under South Carolina law, if a hurricane threatens Hilton Head Island, the Local Government will first issue a Voluntary Evacuation Order. At that time, Southwind Management will request that all Owners and Guests leave the resort in order to allow staff to prepare for the impending hurricane.
If the Governor issues a Mandatory Evacuation Order, all Residents and Visitors to the island are required to leave the island immediately and will not be able to return until the storm passes and local authorities allow re-entry to the island.
After the storm has passed and the Governor rescinds the Evacuation Order, call toll-free (800) 963-5023 for re-entry information.
When a storm is approaching the Island, you should listen to radio stations WGCO 98.3 FM, WYKZ 98.7 FM, WLOW 107.9 FM or watch the Weather Channel on Channel 6 for emergency information and instructions.

HURRICANE EVACUATION ROUTE
Hilton Head Island evacuees will use both the William Hilton Parkway (US 278 Business) and the Cross Island Parkway toll facility (US 278).
As these two roads merge, a third lane will be formed by reversing flow on the inside eastbound lane of US 278. This lane will carry the traffic from the toll facility.
When US 278 reaches I-95, lane assignments will be as follows:
1. The right lane on westbound US 278 will exit to I-95 northbound.
2. The left lane on US 278 westbound will continue on US 278 towards the city of Hampton and eventually to the city of North Augusta.

Augusta.
Should a third lane not be necessary, then both lanes on US 278 will be routed to I-95 with the right lane to I-95 N then left lane continues on US 278.

SAFETY INFORMATION
WHAT IF I GET HURT?
If you do have any of the following problems, the tabs in this section may help ease the pain.
In case of any emergency please dial 9+911 if you are calling from your villa phone.
ALLIGATORS
Do NOT feed or tease them! Alligators can outrun a human for 25 yards.
If you encounter an alligator lazing in the sun quickly and quietly go the other way.
STINGING MARINE LIFE
Lifeguards keep a bottle of vinegar solution to spray on stings.
Meat tenderizer works well too.
After 20 minutes, rinse with salt water.
Be aware that sting rays also enjoy the surf, so watch your step and "shuffle" aside if you spot one nearby.
OYSTER SHELLS, BARNACLES
Cuts and abrasions can result in serious infections.
Clean the wound with peroxide.
Medical treatment is advised.
SNAKE BITES
Use a compression dressing just above the bite, NOT a tourniquet.
Please be aware that the island is home to copperheads, cottonmouths (water moccasins), and the rare rattlesnake or coral snake are occasionally sighted.
SUNBURN
Aloe gels and sprays are available in pharmacies.
Ibuprofen may help.
